See all sizes delivered to New YorkNew York is the hardest market in the country to deliver a shipping container into — which is exactly why most container dealers won't quote it. We will. Our drayage partners clear containers at Port Newark and ship north by tilt-bed for any lot with reasonable access (Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, Staten Island, Long Island, Westchester, north Jersey). For Manhattan, we handle the crane rigging and the DOT/DOB street-occupancy permit as part of the quote.

Popular sizes in NYC
- 20ft Used (WWT) — the go-to for Brooklyn/Queens backyard storage, small-business yards, and construction staging on tight sites. $3,400–$4,200 delivered for most outer-borough ZIPs.
- 40ft High-Cube One-Trip — the standard for container-based retail buildouts, pop-ups on the Beltline or at Industry City, and ADUs on Long Island. $7,200–$8,600 delivered.
- 20ft New One-Trip — what most Manhattan pop-ups request because there is no tolerance for visible rust on retail surfaces.
Typical delivery windows
- Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx (110, 112, 113 ZIPs): 3–5 business days
- Staten Island (10301–10314): 4–6 business days
- Manhattan (100, 101 ZIPs): 5–10 business days — requires crane + DOT permit
- Nassau / Westchester: 4–6 business days
- North Jersey (Hudson/Bergen/Essex): 3–5 business days
Site prep for NYC
Outer-borough lots need the same 100ft straight approach and 14ft vertical clearance as any tilt-bed delivery — common NYC blockers are utility wires at non-standard heights, tree-lined streets, and sub-12ft garage-door alleys. Our pre-call dispatch reviews Google Street View for every NYC delivery before we send the truck.
For Manhattan and tight urban lots, we default to a 40-ton knuckle-boom crane, rig it overnight to avoid daytime street closures, and pull the DOT street-occupancy permit in your ZIP. Typical crane upgrade: $1,400–$2,800 all-in.
Permits
Containers on private lots in the five boroughs are generally allowed as temporary accessory storage. Permanent placement, and anything over 30 days visible from the street, triggers a DOB accessory structure review in most boroughs. Any container placed on a public street or sidewalk requires a DOT street-occupancy permit regardless of duration — we pull it on your behalf and include the cost in the quote.

NYC container regulations at a glance
- Private lots, temporary placement (under 30 days): generally allowed in all five boroughs as accessory storage. No permit required if fully on your property.
- Private lots, permanent placement: DOB accessory structure review typically required. We include a ZIP-specific flag in every NYC quote.
- Public street / sidewalk / curb lane: always requires a DOT street-occupancy permit regardless of duration. We pull it on your behalf (~$150–$450 depending on ZIP and duration).
- Manhattan (most ZIPs): tilt-bed delivery is usually impossible — we default to crane and build the DOT permit window into the delivery schedule.
- Hurricane / nor'easter tie-down: recommended for any coastal Brooklyn, Queens, or Staten Island site. We offer 4,000 lb helical anchors at cost.
This is a plain-English summary, not legal advice. When you quote by ZIP we attach the specific borough permit checklist.
What New York contractors and homeowners are saying.
Dropped a 40ft HC into a Gowanus jobsite on a Saturday morning — they pulled the DOT permit and had a flagger on site. No other dealer I called would even quote it.
We opened a pop-up in Long Island City and needed a clean 20ft one-trip with zero visible rust. Depot photos before dispatch, unit was flawless, delivered on schedule.
Staten Island delivery, tight driveway, overhead wires. The pre-call rehearsed the whole approach on Street View. Driver walked it twice before tilting.
